The Milkelsen Family: Maui Family Photography

Meet the Milkelsen’s from Utah! Ok people, let’s be honest…what is the FIRST thing you notice about them? Uh-huh. I thought the same. Good genes definitely run in this family! They are all so gorgeous!

When Kelly first contacted me, she mentioned that taking some beach portraits was a spare of the moment decision. I don’t mind last-minute bookings and always try my best to be as accommodating as possible (I’ve even booked a few sessions the day of). Besides, being a professional photographer is a pretty sweet job and I’m not going to complain about having to head to the beach on a Saturday evening J

We originally scheduled to do the shoot on the South side, but since the Milkelsen’s were staying on the west side, we moved it to Kapalua. It was a closer and more convenient location for them. We met at DT Flemmings beach near the Ritz Carlton for a sunset session. This spot is perfect for larger families. The beach is long and wide and it’s generally a lot less crowded than Ka’anapali.

It was a very pretty evening and the sky was nice and bright, but a little after we started shooting, the heavens opened up and decided to bless us with rain! The Milkelsen’s were troopers and thankfully, the rain didn’t last longer than five minutes. Everything turned out great and we ended up with a beautiful Maui sunset.

A little something else I’d like to mention before closing out…blues are my FAVORITE color for these types of sessions. This family got it right! Their outfits were perfectly coordinated with different shades of blues, grey’s, and white. They even took it a step further and intermixed solids and patterns. Talk about being “picture perfect!”

Thank you, Milkelsen’s! It was a pleasure photographing your beautiful ‘ohana!
