The Scearse Family: Maui Family Photography
It’s no secret that my favorite location for beach portraits is Wailea at sunset. The multi-colored sky and soft glow the sun creates as it dips into the horizon always offers a breathtaking backdrop. It gets me EVERY time.
Kendra and her family were visiting Maui from Texas and were staying with friends in Haiku. So, the original plan was to photograph their session somewhere on the North Shore. But during the week, the weather on that side of the island was dark and gloomy. I knew we would have to switch locations, so I convinced Kendra to make the drive out to Mokapu beach in Wailea.
And OH. MY. GOODNESS. We were both so glad that we ended up there! The sunset that evening was a bit more magical than usual. I still can’t get over how spectacular it was. The sky was lit up with the most vibrant shades of pink and orange and the sun was almost red!
We started out on the left side of Mokapu beach in the open grass area. I love the way the light shines through the trees there. It comes out looking so pretty in photos! Eventually, we headed towards the beach right in front of the Andaz hotel. The lava rocks create a kind of rough contrast against the calm ocean in this spot and it makes the scenery so beautiful.
This family was so much fun to photograph (and they color-coordinated their outfits so well)! Sometimes, it can be tough to engage older kids during a session because taking professional portraits just isn’t their idea of a good time. But these two were so excited! Honestly, they were some of the happiest kids I’ve met and I was able to capture some beautiful candid moments of them with mom and dad. I also made sure to sneak in a few shots of Karen and her husband by themselves (it’s always nice to have those sweet romantic pictures to look back on).
Tonight was the perfect example of a picture-perfect affair! Thank you Scearse family for allowing me to be your Maui family photographer!
