Photographing Jim and Rachel’s sunrise Kapalua proposal was such an exceptional experience.
The couple had been together for four and a half years. With that said, Rachel knew a proposal was coming someday—she didn’t know when. Truly, Jim planned every detail with so much care, and he pulled it off perfectly. Again, thank you for trusting me as your Maui Island Photographer.
To begin, I arrived at the beach near the Ritz Hotel in Kapalua before sunrise. Notably, the sky was still soft and quiet. Also, the water was calm, and a cool morning breeze drifted across the sand. Indeed, it was peaceful—one of those Maui mornings that feels almost unreal. No doubt, it was the perfect setting for a sunrise Kapalua proposal. Surely, it was a day they would remember forever.
Beforehand, Jim and I had talked ahead of time to plan where he would stand and how the moment would unfold. Of course, he wanted it to feel natural and relaxed, and he wanted Rachel to be amazed. As the sun began to rise, the light turned warm. Viola-that was his moment. Overall, I didn’t want to miss a snapshot of their sunrise Kapalua proposal!
Furthermore, he took Rachel’s hand, said a few words, and then got down on one knee.
As shown in the portraits, her reaction was pure joy. She covered her mouth in shock, smiled through happy tears, and immediately said yes. I captured every second discreetly from a distance, letting the sunrise Kapalua proposal moments be theirs.
After the proposal, they shared a long, emotional hug. Then we spent time taking portraits at the beach. The soft sunlight gave us beautiful, glowing images. The ocean, the palm trees, and the quiet beach created a peaceful backdrop for their first photos as an engaged couple.
Jim couldn’t stop smiling. Rachel kept looking at her ring, still in awe. Certainly, it was a morning filled with love, excitement, and surprise. Being their Maui Island Photographer, I couldn’t stop smiling either.
