Uniquely, there are some moments that remind me why I love being a photographer—and Justin’s sunset surprise proposal to Ariel at the Maui Four Seasons Resort in Wailea, was one of those unforgettable ones.
To begin, it was a golden afternoon at the Maui Four Seasons Resort. The sunset was setting with soft waves crashing, and a nice cool breeze in the air. Patiently waiting, I stood back with my camera, blending into the background. Being present is important in order prepare for Justin to pop the question. I could see Ariel laughing as Justin was playful. Then, without warning, he dropped to one knee.
Indeed, Ariel’s reaction was priceless—total shock, happy disbelief, and pure joy. Certainly, it was a genuine, emotional moment that I felt honored to witness (and capture!). Of course she said yes to Justin’s surprise proposal! Notably, they shared a beautiful moment while the sun glistened against the water behind them.
After the big surprise, we explored the stunning Maui Four Seasons Resort grounds for some portraits.
Furthermore, the lush greenery surrounding the resort provided a romantic, tropical backdrop that perfectly framed their just-engaged glow. Every smile, every touch—so natural and full of love.
Next, we took a quiet moment on the balcony of the Maui Four Seasons resort, which overlooked the iconic Maui palms and the Pacific Ocean. With the breeze drifting and the sound of waves below, it was the perfect setting for some intimate, sun-kissed portraits that felt both relaxed and cinematic.
As the sun dipped lower, we made our way to the lava rocks along the shoreline in front of Maui Four Seasons. In fact, the sky exploded in hues of gold, which casted a warm light that wrapped around them like a blanket. As seen below, these portraits were pure magic—raw, timeless, and intimate.
Justin and Ariel’s Maui proposal was full of love, emotion, and beauty. Moments like these remind me why storytelling through photography is so powerful. Congratulations, you two! It was an honor to capture your beginning.
