Dustin & Taylor: A Surprise Maui Engagement

“When I first met Taylor, it was like seeing my dream girl in real life for the first time. Just 3 days after we met, I knew I didn’t want to waste another day without her being my girlfriend. Every day, holiday, and vacation keeps getting better. She is the most driven and passionate person I know. With our two year anniversary coming up next week, I know I want to spend the rest of my life with my best friend.”

Oh. My. Gosh. Cue the swooning because this gave me all the feels when I opened up Dustin’s email. I mean, how can you NOT instantly fall in love with this guy?! But let’s back up a bit…

I was first contacted by Dustin via Instagram. He said he wanted to schedule a couple’s session because he and his girlfriend, Taylor, were coming to Maui. I photograph couples on vacation quite often, but when Dustin mentioned that he was planning on proposing to Taylor and wanted me to catch the surprise engagement, I just about screamed from excitement! This is what dreams are made of, people!

We immediately started discussing details and decided to have the session at White Rock beach in Wailea. And of course, it HAD to be at sunset. The plan was for them to arrive at the beach for a romantic stroll before heading to dinner. Once there, I told Dustin to look for a lei on the ground and that would be where he needed to get down on one knee so that I could capture all the action.

They couldn’t have timed their arrival any better. The sun was just beginning to set and the lighting was absolutely perfect (I am getting goosebumps just thinking about it)! The cotton candy skies set against the gentle blue of the ocean created the most beautiful background.

And then it all happened…

Dustin proposed and Taylor said YES! I could instantly see how happy and excited and surprised she was. It was too cute for words. After the proposal, we continued on with the engagement session. Now, I’ve photographed A LOT of couples and I can honestly say that these two were made for each other. The love was just seeping out of them!
